Well, here goes nothing. This is something that I have thought about doing for a while now. For several reasons. 1. I feel my mind goes 100 mph, and I don't journal enough about it. 2. I digest so much information and don't carry out any action with it so that makes the information pretty meaningless. 3. I want to improve my writing and blogging is definitely a great way to start. 4. I'm not the type to post my thoughts and ideas on social media daily.
The topics and subjects that interest me range from biotech, blockchain, cannabis, cryptocurrency, decentralized finance, exercise and wellness, healthcare, macroeconomics, mindfulness, organic farming, pharmaceuticals, psychology, sports, sports medicine & sport psychology, and the stoic mindset to name a few. Technology really interests me, but what has really caught my interest as of late has been the metaverse.
The metaverse refers to virtual worlds that include assets, experiences, and other environments. It has been recently trending due to Mark Zuckerberg's comments about Facebook becoming a metaverse company during this upcoming decade. Why am I interested in it? Well for one, I used to play video games for countless hours so it's crazy to see these game-like features start to become a topic of conversation by one of the biggest tech companies of the century. Growing up, one of my favorite games was Pokémon(nerdy, I'm aware). But the way it was designed, was genius. A game that seems simple on the surface but is actually very complex. Structured with an addicting reward system of training your Pokémon and getting rewarded with stronger, evolved, better-looking Pokémon as a result. The scarcity principle of searching and discovering rare Pokémon. There are many reasons why this game was so addictive. And this could be seen when Pokémon Go was introduced in 2016. The sense of nostalgia was hard to beat and had me outside trying to catch em all like I was 11 all over again. I wasn't the only one as the game quickly took over the top of the App Store for a while. This was just a preview of the use cases with the metaverse as this used the technology of Augmented Reality(AR). AR is an interactive and enhanced way to experience the real world mixed with digital information and content. The plethora of use cases and ways this can shape society is why I have been so intrigued by the metaverse and trying to learn as much as I can and research ways to get involved. Facebook and other companies wouldn't be talking about it and making it a priority if it wasn't a big deal.
The list of use cases doesn't just stop at making old video games, more realistic. Others include disrupting the retail sector, healthcare, exercise and fitness, military, traveling, sports. For example, I was reading a few days ago about some of the use cases of the metaverse including sustainable travel where people could go see popular travel locations without having to deal with buying tickets, long lines, and the real travel process. Or educational opportunities of learning about historical sites through 3D representations of how they actually looked during the time period and not just reading about them in textbooks. These types of use cases sound out worldly, but the way technology works, I wouldn't be surprised if we see these 5 - 10 years down the line.
I haven't even discussed how this is interconnected with blockchain and cryptocurrency and the variety of ways this will disrupt the way we think, view, and interact in society. However, this first blog post is getting kind of long so I think I'm going to end here.
Well hopefully this blogging thing goes well and I can stay consistent with it and get better along the way. Actually, I know I can, it is just a matter of actually doing it. The biggest thing is just being myself throughout the whole process, being independent-minded where I'm not just reproducing other's ideas as my own and staying curious and interesting... I hope people like it as well but I don't really care if they do because, at the end of the day, this is for me to get better and have a platform for my thoughts. But if people do enjoy it, I'll be glad because helping people is a priority to me.
